Lionsgate buys RABBIT HOLE; pushing for some awards love

Lionsgate is on a roll as of late.

Along with nabbing up the rights to films like BIUTIFUL, THE CONSPIRATOR, and WINTER'S BONE (early this year for the latter) thanks to subsidiary Roadside Attractions, the studio has now made yet another ploy, joining the recently announced for fall FOR COLORED GIRLS, in the form of John Cameron Mitchell’s RABBIT HOLE (Chase's TIFF review can be found HERE).

Deadline is reporting that the studio has purchased the rights to the Aaron Eckhart and Nicole Kidman starring film, that has not only stolen the show at this year’s TIFF, but is apparently going to be pushed for big time Oscar buzz this year.

Now, we haven’t gotten wind of a set release date yet, but one can only imagine that it will be seeing theaters later this November or December. Also, knowing that it’s Lionsgate behind it, has me thinking that this will see more than just a random limited release, which for fans of Mitchell, like this writer, makes me more than happy. Sure, it’s a bit of a shocking pick-up for the studio, but it’s one that I’m damn sure they will do right by.

At least they better.
