Lone Scherfig’s ONE DAY gets a July 8 release date
Apparently Focus Features has some really, really high hopes for the latest film from Lone Sherfig (AN EDUCATION), entitled ONE DAY.
Now, word on the film has been good so far, but now, thanks to Variety, word has just become massively more interesting, as the film has received a July 8 release date.
Smack dab in the middle of the summer, the spot is a really interesting one for this Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess-led romantic comedy. Going head to head against films like THE ZOOKEEPER and ONE FOR THE MONEY, the film is far and away the most compelling project to see a release on that day, and should be one of the most interesting releases of the year.
Based off of a novel by David Nicholls, the film follows a pair of friends, who we continually “check in with” on the same day for twenty years after their one night stand on July 15. The film co-stars Rafe Spall, Romola Garai and Patricia Clarkson.
The follow-up to AN EDUCATION for Scherfig, the film has been getting some really solid buzz as of late, and this is the ultimate sign of confidence from Focus, a studio who is not the biggest name in summer blockbusters. The perfect fodder for a summer blockbuster, this may be a really special film. Hopefully it brightens up what looks to be a rather dull summer season.
