MACGYVER vs. MACGRUBER
MACGRUBER is, surprisingly enough, an anxiously awaited film from the writers of "SNL." Never would I have thought that the completely unfunny skit could be turned into a movie that looks so funny. Luckily, the red band trailer sold a lot of people on the film with its hilarious and vulgar content. There's only one problem though, Lee Zlotoff - creator of the skit's source material MACGYVER - isn't laughing.
Zlotoff is planning to file suit against the film for copyright/trademark infringement. Apparently, Zlotoff is hard at work on a MACGYVER feature-length film for Warner Bros. Zlotoff feels that MACGRUBER could ultimately hurt his upcoming feature.
Of course, all MACGRUBER fans shouldn't worry, the film will still come out on time. This happens all the time, there is no way that Universal would let their already completed MACGRUBER movie get canned.
I feel that MACGRUBER could actually help the MACGYVER movie. They way I'm seeing it, is that MACGYVER is pretty irrelevant these days, the MACGRUBER film makes it more relevant. Teenagers aren't going to flock to theaters to see MACGYVER, but they might have interest in seeing the source material after seeing the spoof.
What do you guys think about all this legal drama? Would you even want to see either film?
