MACHETE to hack and slash its way through a special Venice Film Festival premiere
Oh, man, talk about shaking up a stuffy film festival.
According to Variety, just after Darren Aronofsky’s hotly anticipated drama, BLACK SWAN, makes its world premiere at the upcoming Venice Film Festival, it looks like the long-haired assassin known as Machete will be making his presence known at a special midnight premiere.
The outlet is reporting that Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming film, MACHETE, will indeed be premiering at the upcoming festival, in a special, out of competition screening. This shouldn’t shock you, as Quentin Tarantino is heading up that festival’s jury, and the grindhouse genre isn’t new to stuffy festivals. PLANET TERROR, part of the GRINDHOUSE film that Machete draws its origin from, also made its premiere on the festival circuit.
That said, the film will definitely be an interesting blast in the gut for those expecting a film festival full of much darker, much more dramatic fare. While I’m personally looking forward to the latter, less campy stuff, MACHETE is definitely a film that I can’t wait to see. So this is one premiere I’ll be keeping my eyes on.
