Magnolia Pictures looking to buy Joaquin Phoenix documentary; hoping to release in the fall

If there has ever been a more interesting story of a turn in a film career, the one taken recently by one Joaquin Phoenix may be the most interesting.

According to The LA Times (via The Playlist), Magnolia Pictures, who released Phoenix’s last film TWO LOVERS, is currently in talks to buy up a film covering the last year of Phoenix’s life, better known as the documentary/mockumentary/whatever the hell it is I'M STILL HERE: THE LAST YEAR OF JOAQUIN PHOENIX.

The film has been much talked about ever since its announcement, and garnered even more buzz after potential buyers actually saw the film, and seemed to dig it quite a bit.  Now, the Casey Affleck directed film is looking to get a fall release.

Interestingly, while doing press rounds for the aforementioned TWO LOVERS, the story covered in the film seemed to kick off, and saw Phoenix going off the handles in more ways than one. And while the film is still completely up in the air legitimacy wise, I can’t help but have the most morbid of interest to see just what Affleck filmed Phoenix doing. The film was rumored to feature Phoenix “snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly,” and while that sounds utterly crazy, it also sounds like the makings of one hell of an interesting documentary.

Expect a final say on this story soon, and expect a release date to follow close behind.
