Malin Akerman to replace Lindsay Lohan in INFERNO
Despite repeated claims from nearly everyone involved with the project, Lindsay Lohan is now officially off Matthew Wilder's Linda Lovelace biopic, INFERNO. After holding out for Lohan's legal troubles to subside and for her latest trip to rehab to end, Lohan's offer to the film has been withdrawn. Wilder had consistently said that filming of the film would wait for Lohan, but with the actress' ongoing troubles paired with a major concern over the potential of even being able to insure Lohan for the film, she is now off the project. There are, of course, some conflicting reports of just who did the breaking off, with Lohan saying it was her choice, while Wilder maintains it was his and his producers' decision.
But Wilder and his film are not without a leading lady, as Malin Akerman is now confirmed to take over the role. You may recognize Akerman from her varied body of work - including such mainstream fare as COUPLES RETREAT and 27 DRESSES, along with past Sundance picks HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE and THE ROMANTICS.
The film will be based off Lovelace's own book, Ordeal: An Autobiography, which she wrote with Mike McGrady. Wilder's script previously made the 2008 Black List.
Akerman strikes me as an inspired choice for the film, as the actress has already shown a range in her ability and is certainly due her own leading role. Akerman also possesses a slinky sexiness that should serve her well in portraying the former porn star. Whereas a Lohan-starring INFERNO seemed combustible in a negative way, as an Akerman flick, it may prove to be hot in all the right ways. What do you think about Akerman as Lovelace?
