With his latest film, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, hitting theaters this past weekend, the cast for Woody Allen’s next project BOP DECAMERON continues to grow. Screen Daily is reporting that (via The Playlist), on the same day as the DVD and Blu-ray release of the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu film BIUTIFUL, actress Maricel Alvarez (who stars in that bleak drama with Javier Bardem) has joined DECAMERON. Her role has yet to be specified.

The film will follow four different stories, two of which involve American characters in Rome, and the other two following Italian characters. Alvarez joins a top notch cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, and Roberto Begnini, and also, if he makes good on his claim, even Allen himself will be returning to the big screen.

While I have not read the series of novellas from Giovanni Boccarccio, which is where this film draws its inspiration, I do absolutely adore the idea of Allen taking on yet another new city for his films. He’s been on quite a roll lately (save for the awful WHATEVER WORKS), so hopefully this film can continue that.
