Mathieu Kassovitz and Juliette Binoche to lead LA VIE D’UNE
In this world of actors turned directors it seems like, despite crafting one of the best films of the ‘90s in LA HAINE, Mathieu Kassovitz seems to be overlooked.
Well, he has just gotten himself a new acting gig, and it’s alongside one of today’s most beloved actresses, Juliette Binoche. Variety is reporting that the two are set to topline the upcoming directorial debut of Sylvie Testud, a film entitled LA VIE D’UNE AUTRE.
The film is a “Proustian tale of a young woman who falls in love then wakes up a decade later as the mother of a young boy and smack bang in the middle of a divorce.” Binoche will be playing the mother role. This is the first real thing that Kassovitz has attached himself to in some time, but with his next role in Steven Soderbergh’s HAYWIRE set to bow this year, this may be a changing trend. And we would be a much better world if that were the case.
Obviously, it goes without saying that Binoche is one of the most interesting and truly gifted actresses working today, and Kassovitz is one of the more interesting male thespians as well. Not the most prolific actor alive, this seems to be changing. He’s a really great actor, and while I’d be much more interested if Kassovitz were to helm it, but beggars can’t be choosers, now can they?
