After making what may ultimately stand to be the quintessential remake from this generation’s slate of foreign film remakes with the shockingly superb LET ME IN, based off of the beloved vampire film, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, director Matt Reeves is heading back to the vampire genre.

Deadline is reporting that Reeves is set to helm an adaptation of the Justin Cronin novel The Passage. Penned by John Logan, the film has been compared to 28 DAYS LATER and THE STAND, and tells the story of cancer patients who find a cure in bat bites that ultimately turn them into vampires.

Apparently, Cronin is set to publish a second book in the series, so a film franchise isn’t totally out of the question here.

This joins the recently announced film 8 O’CLOCK, as projects that are now on Reeves’ slate, and personally, this guy can’t get back to making films soon enough. I absolutely adored LET ME IN, and this project really sounds like it could be a wonderful film. I’m not exactly sure why Reeves would want to take on a film like this following LET ME IN, but if it’s half as good, then we are in for something special here.
