Matthew Goode in talks for STOKER

Apparently an Oscar makes you too good for a genre picture.

Joking aside, recent Oscar winner Colin Firth appears to be out of Park Chan-wook’s upcoming vampire thriller, STOKER. However, the role is set to be filled by Firth’s A SINGLE MAN co-star Matthew Goode. Variety is reporting that Goode is in talks to star in the film, and beat out names like James Franco, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Endgerton, all of whom apparently showed interest in the hot project.

The film is penned by Wentworth Miller, and hit the 2010 Black List, with a script that follows a mother/daughter duo who, after the death of the husband/father, reunite with a mysterious family member. Goode would play that very family member, who also happens to be rumored to be a vampire.

Personally, as a fan of both Goode and Chan-wook, I really think this could be an interesting pairing. I think Goode proved himself as a really solid actor in films like A SINGLE MAN and obviously WATCHMEN, and there is no single better name to take on a film like this than Chan-wook. Toss in Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman, and you have a cast and crew that should be able to knock this one out of the ballpark.
