Matthew McConaughey joins Richard Linklater’s BERNIE
When saying that Matthew McConaughey has shown some acting chops in the past, it mainly means that he was engaging in the Richard Linklater masterpiece, DAZED AND CONFUSED.
Thusly crapping his career down a path of shirtless workouts and horrible romantic comedies, it appears as though he may be heading back to his former director for a new crime project.
Entitled BERNIE, this Texas-based crime thriller/comedy has been compared to FARGO, and will star Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine. Now, according to Production Weekly, McConaughey is set to join the film, which is one that Linklater apparently wrote “about ten years ago,” and will follow a funeral home assistant “who befriends this old lady. It’s kind of a true crime story.”
Personally, while I’m not a fan of McConaughey, I do have to say, a black comedy crime thriller from Linklater does sound appealing, and if he’s along for the ride, why the hell not. The cast doesn’t sound at all appealing, but I’ll always give the benefit of the doubt to Linklater, so this one is a definite wait and see.
