Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) may continue his superhero movie streak by developing a new film about retired superheroes called THE GOLDEN AGE, according to Deadline. The title references early comic books of the 1930s when Superman and Batman were first introduced.

This film will be based on an unpublished comic book from British TV chat show host Jonathan Ross, which tells the story of “a team of retired superheroes that help out their grandchildren when their middle-aged parents screw the world up.”

It’s reported that Vaughn is very eager and excited to get this project rolling. He’s mentioned as saying he hopes to cast the film before the script is written. Deadline revealed his wish-list of aging stars to play the retired superheroes, including Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty. This sounds like a tough list of actors to get together, but really what else do they have going on at this moment aside from Eastwood’s directing and Nicholson’s occasional role.

As of now, it’s not knownwhether Vaughn’s script collaborator Jane Goldman will write this project. It makes sense that she would, seeing as how Goldman wrote his two past films for him. Vaughn makes a point of saying that he may hire other writers, and it’s a project he may not ultimately direct himself even though he’s excited about it.

According to Deadline, “Vaughn believes the success of The Expendables and Red shows that audiences are open to the idea of older action heroes. ‘You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supporting roles now. I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.’”

This sounds like a terrific film and one that would be a perfect fit for Vaughn. I would love to see Beatty, Nicholson, and Eastwood in these roles. Who else would like to see in this film?
