Matthew Vaughn’s idea for a sequel to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is magnetic

In modern day Hollywood, it has become the norm to start planning for the sequel before your first film has even released. Let's just say director Matthew Vaughn isn't waiting till June 3rd to start thinking about a potential follow-up to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

I must warn you; if you don't want something like this spoiled for you, then I'd stop reading right about now if I were you. However, I must also warn you his idea is pretty epic.

In a revealing interview with HitFix's Drew McWeeny, Vaughn stated that he would "definitely" love to return to the world of the young X-Men and in fact already has an idea on how he would like a sequel to start of with a bang. Literally.

"I've got some ideas for the opening for the next film. I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he's pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren't even mentioned. And we could go from there, and I've got some fun ideas about what other mutants to bring in. I don't want to tempt fate, though. If the film's a hit, of course I'd be interested. I really enjoyed making it."

Sounds like a comic book/historical hybrid that could give Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN opening credits a run for its money. With the film getting good buzz thus far from its early reactions, it seems that a sequel to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is more than likely. Whether Vaughn will actually return to the director's chair is yet to be determined.

Head on over to HitFix to read the rest of Mr. McWeeny's interview with the director.

That could be the greatest opening to an XMEN film ever, and I’m almost angry that thought never even occurred to me.
