McG tapped to direct OUIJA

In today's other directorial choice news, McG is now in negotiations to helm the OUIJA motion picture. Just a few weeks back, we learned that Universal had whittled its director list down to include only McG and THE CRAZIES' Breck Eisner. Both directors reportedly pitched their take on the board-game-as-film to studio executives last week, with McG proving to be the winner.

Though we don't know much about the plot of the film, we do know that McG's take on the film is coming to us with a script from Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (TRON: LEGACY) and has long been touted as "a four-quadrant supernatural adventure centering around a family," a wide designation that means it's supposed to appeal to everyone. This take is being likened to films like THE MUMMY franchise and the INDIANA JONES series.

It's genuinely difficult for me to get pumped up for a film that will be directed by McG and scripted by Kitsis and Horowitz. TRON: LEGACY was a huge disappointment, and most of my issues with it lay in its scripting and basic plot mechanics. I'd love to see the screenwriters show me up with a great next film, but this doesn't look like a project likely to make me change my tune.

And, am I the only who just keeps picturing a new-school JUMANJI with this?
