Mel Gibson joins MACHETE KILLS

Talk about one hell of an inspired casting choice.

After a week or so of open posturing on the part of Robert Rodriguez in the hopes of nabbing one Mel Gibson for the cast of his upcoming sequel, MACHETE KILLS, the director has appeared to have gotten his man.

Deadline reports that Gibson “is in” for a role in the film, which at this point, is about all we know about his involvement.  The picture follows Machete, played by Danny Trejo, as he is sent to Mexico to end the reign of a cartel leader and his billionaire backer. With Trejo, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez back for the sequel, the film is shaping up to be quite the interesting follow-up to what was an enjoyable, but ultimately empty and vapid bit of genre exercise.

Personally, I love the addition of Gibson, who has always brought a great energy to his performances. Say what you will about the man, but as an actor and filmmaker, very few people are quite as gifted and talented as this troubled icon.  Count me in for this sucker.

About Joshua Brunsting

Born in the tiny Michigan city known as Holland, and raised in the even smaller city known as Saugatuck, I have been a film geek for the majority of my life, and have known film was my passion ever since the final frame of THE LION KING. I’m a romantic with a thing for 60’s pop music (preferably French), John Keats poems, and an even bigger thing for film noir. Currently a Journalism Major at Grand Valley State University, I am using my love of film, and my deathly, ninja-like, skill behind the keyboard to slowly take over the world. When I’m not writing about or watching film, I’m listening to music, particularly from the likes of TV on the Radio, Best Coast, and Semi Precious Weapons. I play the ukulele, and I also have a deep and intense love for Gustavo Santaolalla and Ennio Morricone, but then again, who doesn’t. I was drum major for my high school marching band for two years, I’m one of the four people who actually watched Dollhouse, and my favorite film of all time is Godard’s BREATHLESS. I’m a wannabe screenwriter, a wild thing, a nerd, a geek, and most importantly, I’m a lover of film. Oh, and I want to be Captain Planet when I grow up.
