MGM and WB really want Peter Jackson to direct THE HOBBIT films

THE HOBBIT seems like a crazy mess right now, with rumors flying everywhere about who might take up the director's chair now that Guillermo del Toro is no longer on the project. Just yesterday we reported that the studios behind the films, WB and MGM, were courting HARRY POTTER director David Yates to take up the mantle. This is still true according to today's reports, but it appears he is second in the running, only behind Peter Jackson.

It makes perfect sense at this point that the studio would be after Jackson to take the mantle again, because the first time worked out so damn well. It just seems that Peter Jackson would rather do something else since THE LORD OF THE RINGS was such a massive undertaking.

At this point, there's no telling who will take up THE HOBBIT, but I have a feeling they are going to make a pretty compelling plea to Jackson very soon. I also feel certain that we will find out soon, because the studio needs to renew faith that a lot of people have probably lost in all this mess.

Who would you guys like to see direct THE HOBBIT films?
