A while back, it was revealed that the king of the big summer blockbuster, Michael Bay, was going to go decidedly smaller for his next film. A crime picture entitled PAIN AND GAIN, the film would be based on a 1998 story from the Miami News Times following a group of bodybuilders who become criminals.

However, the trail for that film had gone cold almost the day it was announced.

Well, according to an interview with MTV (hat tip to The Playlist), Bay has quite some big plans for the project. In the interview, Bay revealed that he will be shooting the film as his next picture. The interesting thing to note is that the film will be shot for a roughly $20 million budget, which is about 1/100 of the budget for TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON.

Personally, I think this is exactly the type of project Bay should be doing. The big budget Bay’s been given throughout his career can be seen as a crutch to many, so the lower cash flow will definitely be cause for intrigue. Lower budgets breed creativity, so here’s to hoping that Bay will be the recipient of an influx of creativity. One can only hope.
