Michael Haneke to shoot THESE TWO come 2011

There are brilliant filmmakers, and then there are filmmakers like Michael Haneke.

With a canon featuring stunning films like THE PIANO TEACHER, CODE UNKNOWN, CACHE, FUNNY GAMES (along with its remake), and this year’s WHITE RIBBON (nominated for Best Foreign Film at last year’s Academy Awards), Haneke has become one of today’s most beloved, if not controversial, filmmakers.

Now, according to The Playlist, the auteur is currently working on a project that has found the trail of news go relatively cold.

A little bit of history. A few years ago, Haneke was set to start production on a new film, entitled THESE TWO, that looked at “humiliation of the physical breakdown in the elderly.” I know, your normal peachy and bright Haneke material. However, instead of going to that film, Haneke began looking at helming a new film pertaining to the Internet (you must understand, these descriptions may sound primitive, because very few filmmakers are as secretive as Haneke).

Now, the outlet is reporting that Haneke is set to shoot THESE TWO come 2011, with PIANO TEACHER and TIME OF THE WOLF star Isabelle Huppert. As far as the Internet-based film goes, if it did indeed shoot, I would imagine we would have heard something about it, so it would appear as though the film is set to be delayed, or maybe just follow up THESE TWO.

Personally, I am a massive fan of Haneke and his work, and while this premise may sound rather dark, even as far as Haneke’s standards, I can’t help but think that this is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen. ANTICHRIST, but with the elderly. And for some reason, the audacity of that exact statement, is why this is one of my most anticipated films coming down the pipeline. Oh, and the creative team here is one of the best duos in cinema.
