Michael Shannon talks candidly about how he landed the SUPERMAN gig

With the mere prospect of Michael Shannon playing a villain in a tentpole comic book franchise, the Internet was abuzz. When that turned out to be true and the role was revealed to be General Zod, things got really exciting.

But how did this come to be was what I, for one, wanted to know. Shannon has had a variety of scene-stealing roles in films like THE RUNAWAYS and REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, amongst other indie darlings, but has steered quite clear of mainstream moviedom (we'll look the other way on JONAH HEX since that was so bad it practically doesn't even count as a real movie).

Well, allow the man himself to answer that question in as a refreshingly candid way anyone can.

I'm foreseeing Shannon's Zod being Heath Ledger-esque in epic underestimatedness and general diabolical villanry.
