Michael Shannon up for the villain role in SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL?
Michael Shannon is a fantastic character actor that has long been owed his due and this is one role that just might send him soaring. Deadline is reporting the rumor that director Zack Snyder & co. are interested in Shannon for an unspecified villain role in MAN OF STEEL. And that's it. That's all there is to the story.
But just the prospect of Shannon as Supe's nemesis is exciting enough! I've often thought that he is the only capable actor to take up The Joker should someone be sacrilegious enough to do that, however I could definitely see him facing off against DC's other caped crusader.
Now the question is, what villain would that be? The already rumored yet unconfirmed General Zod? Meh. Brainiac? Perhaps. Lex Luthor? Perhaps not, as Snyder has noted this will be a fresh start with no continuity to the SUPERMAN films of the past. So, who would you like to see Shannon play?
This rumor also comes hot on the heels of another centering around MAN OF STEEL's villain. Earlier today, Latino Review reported that Edgar Martinez (CARLOS) was being looked at for a similar role. Zack Snyder has recently denied the rumors that Viggo Mortensen had been cast as the film's baddie.
