While comic book films may still be the most sought after projects for major studios, the revisionist novel adaptation is just as hot. PRIDE & PREJUDICE & ZOMBIES is slowly making its way to the big screen with ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER following in step. And now it’s Shakespeare’s turn.

Showblitz is reporting that Michael Sucsy, the man behind the top-notch HBO film GREY GARDENS, will be helming a film entitled ROSALINE. The film will follow the story of Romeo and Juliet, but this time, it will be told through the eyes of Romeo’s jilted ex-main squeeze, Rosaline.

The film is based off of a novel from writer Rebecca Serle and continues the recent trend of revisionist tales being picked up by studios. Fox 2000 is producing this picture.

Personally, while the premise itself may seem a bit silly, not only is the idea of seeing this story told vicariously through a third party instead of Romeo or Juliet, but the addition of Sucsy as a director is really enticing. He’s a fantastic filmmaker, and one that should do wonders with this story.
