Mike Nichols looking to go to GREAT HOPE SPRINGS with Streep and Bridges
If a film couldn’t get any more interesting, I think this one may just have.
A day after news arose connecting Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges to a new relationship drama called GREAT HOPE SPRINGS, The Wrap has the scoop on just who will lead the hotly anticipated project.
The outlet is reporting that Mike Nichols, director of films like THE BIRDCAGE, THE GRADUATE and CARNAL KNOWLEDGE is currently in talks to direct the film, based off of a screenplay by Vanessa Taylor. SPRINGS follows a couple, Bridges and Streep, who hope to save their marriage by attending counseling.
The film sounds like the relative sequel to one of Nichols’ latest films, his utterly brilliant film CLOSER, and if that film plums the same dark depths that that film called home, this will be a drama unlike any that we’ve seen in a very long time. The logline leaves room for this to either be an IT’S COMPLICATED clone, or something far darker, and far more interesting. Nichols is a really gifted director who has been doing this for 40+ years, and hopefully this one will live up to the potential. This is a definite step up from Jessie Nelson, who was rumored to be attached to the project when it was announced yesterday.
