This is slightly disappointing news. Director Mike White has just dropped out of helming Lionsgate's film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's novel of the same name, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES. Nothing messy is being blamed here, just a scheduling conflict with a project White is doing for HBO. White said, "I loved the project and looked forward to working with Lionsgate. Unfortunately, the timing could not be worked out. I wish them the best with the movie."

Back in October, the shortlist of directors for the project included White, Jonathan Demme, Matt Reeves, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Mike Newell, Neil Marshall, and David Slade. With Lionsgate going great guns to get a new a director on this project, I expect one of these guys to be picked for the film, and soon.

Though we also have no official casting for the film, Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy have long been rumored to fill Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy's shoes in Grahame-Smith's bloody take on the Jane Austen classic. And, no, you're not going crazy - Hathaway and McAvoy once starred together in BECOMING JANE, with Hathaway playing Austen herself. Oh, tiny Hollywood talent pool!

Who would you like to see take over the project?
