More family-friendly version of TIME BANDITS to be made
Terry Gilliam’s 1981 adventure film TIME BANDITS is going to be remade to be more family-friendly.
The original was rated PG, which sounds like a family-friendly rating to me. I believe that the execs behind the remake (Guy Collins, Michael Ryan, and Fred Hedman) are afraid that the original film needs a wider audience, because it’s too strange or unconventional for kids in this day and age.
I’m all for getting a smaller film more fans, but do we really need a remake to do it? The lack of originality in filmmaking these days is a cause for concern. What isn’t based on a book, board game, or theme park ride is a remake of another film. Films can’t be specialized anymore; humor must be broadened, violence and sexuality must be subdued, and these constraints cause originality to take a back seat.
I think I’ll just wait for the remake of the remake of TIME BANDITS.
