Spike Jonze

A fan of directors Spike Jonze and Darren Aronofsky? A fan of luscious string instrumentation? Then boy, do I have a pair of short little videos for you.

First up, while it’s not really a Spike Jonze-directed short film, Jonze has shot a new video, featuring the brilliant cellist Yo-Yo Ma and LA dancer Lil Buck, and it’s kind of brilliant. The video came about after Jonze attended an events “to bring the arts back into schools and got to see an amazing collaboration between Yo-Yo Ma and a young dancer in LA, Lil Buck. Someone who knows Yo-Yo Ma had seen Lil Buck on YouTube and put them together. The dancing is Lil Buck’s own creation and unlike anything I’ve seen.”

The video itself isn’t much to look at outside of some absolutely fantastic music and dancing, so if that floats your boat, than this is an absolute must watch.

Darren Aronofsky has also released a little video, a new two-minute ad for Yves Saint Laurent, and starring Vincent Cassel, the short is penned by THE FOUNTAIN writer Ari Handel and BLACK SWAN scribe Mark Heyman, but it also happens to include yet another great score from Clint Mansell. It’s a visual treat, and something quite unlike anything Aronofsky has been up to lately.
