Must Watch: Trailer for TRUE GRIT proves it’s going to be a force to reckon with come Oscar time

I think we all just got took by the Coen Brothers.

With THE SOCIAL NETWORK hitting this weekend, the buzz has not only been unanimously positive, but so much so, that it is far and away the biggest contender at this point in time to walk away with the Best Picture Oscar come that time in 2011.

That is, at least until now.

We have our first trailer for TRUE GRIT, thanks to Apple, and I have to say, just when you thought the Coens couldn’t do the Western genre better than their neo-noir neo-Western masterpiece that was NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, we have TRUE GRIT.

Check out the trailer over at Apple to get your fill.

Starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper, and up-and-comer Hailee Steinfeld, and it is a remake of the legendary John Wayne film of the same name. Itself based on a novel, the film follows a young girl and a U.S. Marshal, who team up with a Texas Ranger to find the man who killed the girl’s father. It’s your standard revenge tale, just told through the eyes and from the mind of the Coens. What more could you ask for?

The trailer shows that Roger Deakins is again at the top of his game with regards to his cinematography, Steinfeld’s performance seems to steal the show (at least based off of her narration of the trailer), and this trailer again proves that before you start talking about who is today’s best filmmaker, you have to let the Coens know so they can prove that they lead that very conversation.

What do you think of the trailer?
