Natalie Portman will not star in GRAVITY; studio gunning for Sandra Bullock
Most of the time, casting rumor back-and-forths both bore and exhaust me (I refuse to ever relive the drama that was the SPIDER-MAN reboot casting, no matter how pleased I was with the results). However, when it comes to projects I am interested in, well, then I can muster up some perked ears. Which leads me to the latest in regards to Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY and what is stretching into an eternal search for a leading lady.
Despite being offered the leading female role for the $80 million film (which is now apparently going to be in 3D), Natalie Portman has decided against taking it on. Angelina Jolie also passed on the role (twice), which makes me worry just what the heck it entails that is turning the ladies off (even if it means being in a huge film opposite Robert Downey Jr.), though Portman has cited scheduling conflicts for her bowing out. The back-to-the-drawing-board casting list now apparently includes Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan, Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, Abbie Cornish, Rebecca Hall, Olivia Wilde, Blake Lively, and Sandra Bullock with a bullet. Sure, Warner Bros., you and every other studio in town.
However, Warner is apparently "making a full court press" to get Bullock for the role. And while Bullock is now an Oscar winner and it seems to be Hollywood's raison d'etre to get Sandy back on screen in a quality role, I have to say that she is the least compelling actress on this list. We'll wait and see. The whiplash is making me sleepy.
