Nathan Fillion will at least voice Green Lantern in new animated film
Nathan Fillion (Firefly, SERENITY, Castle) has become somewhat of a geek icon in recent years, taking over the mantle once held by Bruce Campell from the EVIL DEAD series. Fillion gained fame as Mal Reynolds in Joss Whedon's sci-fi western series Firefly, a character that was seen by many as the next Han Solo.
When casting rumors began for the live-action version GREEN LANTERN, Fillion's name was the popular choice among the geek elite, as seen in this fan-made fake trailer for GREEN LANTERN featuring the actor. Ryan Reynolds ended up landing the gig, but Fillion will voice Hal Jordan in a new animated version to be released in tandem with the summer blockbuster entitled Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.
Fillion has a history with DC, having previously voiced the character of Steve Trevor in the animated Wonder Woman cartoon in addition to lending his voice talent to Justice League. Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss will voice Arisia, a new recruit in the Green Lantern Corps, with Henry Rollins and Rowdy Roddy Piper (THEY LIVE) adding some gusto to the proceedings as well.
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD, and via download June 7th, a week or so before the release of GREEN LANTERN on June 17th, so fans will at least get an idea of what could have been with Fillion in the role.
