NBC might be ending HEROES

I guess we all saw this coming. I've seen it coming since season two. It looks like NBC will be asking the show's producers to come up with a final chapter for the series. Not surprising, given the continued plummeting numbers that the show has been suffering for a while now.

I've never been a "Heroes" apologist. In fact, I've been very critical of the series (sometimes a bit too much) since episode one. Don't get me wrong, season one had some amazing moments, like future-Hiro, but there were also moments of extreme frustration that made me wonder whether the show could last beyond a few years.

Although season one topped out at 16 million viewers, the current season four is not doing so well. The latest episode attracted only 5.86 million viewers, myself included. Not because I like the show, but because I've invested so much time into it that it seems like a waste to not stick around.

If in fact NBC wants producers to finish the show, I think it's good news. Giving the writers ample notice would give them time to pull out all the stops and finish the series in style. That's exactly what "Lost" has been doing the past two years since it was given an end date.
