With Captain America costume designs now revealed, and the announcement of Stanley Tucci joining the cast, Marvel fans now have confirmation straight from the horse's mouth that Neal McDonough will be playing the part of Dum Dum Dugan in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.  In a video interview with MTV, McDonough also reveals the real possibility that the famed WWII elite unit The Howling Commandos will appear in the adaptation, with Dugan and the others fighting alongside Cap.

The Howling Commandos originally included Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the parallels to The Avengers team is not coincidental. The relationship between Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) with The Howling Commandos paves the way for him to eventually lead the superhero team made up of Iron Man, Hawkeye, and The Hulk among other Marvel notables. However, it is still uncertain if Cap will be the outright leader in the film version of THE AVENGERS due out May 4, 2012.

In the video, it's quite clear that McDonough is already growing Dugan's handlebar moustache, and the Band of Brothers star mentions that he will be donning the trademark bowler hat that has also become a staple of the character. This role could go a long way in making up for McDonough's turn as M. Bison in the dreadful STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI video game adaptation from last year.

If McDonough's involvement can capture some of the intensity of Band of Brothers and The Pacific (most notably during John Basilone's last stand in one of the final episodes), then the WWII battle scenes in CAPTAIN AMERICA might wind up being quite memorable.
