NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH gets new title due to Florida shooting
It's always a shame when real-life incidents effect the movie industry, even when it comes to something as seemingly unimportant as a movie title. Due to the recent shooting of Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watch coordinator George Zimmerman, Fox studios has decided to retitle the forthcoming alien invasion movie NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH to the far less intriguing THE WATCH.
The film, which stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade, follows a group of suburban men who form a neighborhood watch group, only to discover an alien plot to destroy the earth. On March 28, it was announced that Fox had pulled promotional materials related to the film in Florida so as to not upset anyone.
THE WATCH was directed by Akiva Schaffer, who makes up one-third of parody music group The Lonely Island, and was written by Jared Stern, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Justin Theroux. You can check out the red band trailer below.
THE WATCH hits theaters on July 27.
