Neill Blomkamp

TheOneRing.net has been the one-stop source for everything LORD OF THE RINGS since the beginning of production for the first installment in the series. They ended up having a partnership with Peter Jackson and WETA, and the site was even temporarily renamed (KongisKing.net) when KING KONG began filming. Throughout the years, they have managed to put together a great network of spies that never tire of snooping. And one of their minions is now offering up a fairly solid rumor that Neill Blomkamp (DISTRICT 9) is going to step in and direct THE HOBBIT after the recent departure of Guillermo Del Toro.

Frankly, I'm surprised Blomkamp's name hasn't popped up more often when the discussion comes up of who could helm the next two Middle-Earth movies. He has an established relationship with Peter Jackson after the duo made several attempts to get a HALO movie off the ground, in addition to Jackson producing the surprise hit and Best Picture nominee DISTRICT 9. Blomkamp understands scale, dramatic storytelling, and he knows how to handle the big special effects moments as well.

If you were Blomkamp, wouldn't it be worth putting a DISTRICT 9 sequel on the shelf for a few years to direct THE HOBBIT?
