Neill Blomkamp

There’s nothing quite like working with the same team twice.

According to Deadline, that’s exactly what Neill Blomkamp plans to do for his next film, ELYSIUM. The outlet is reporting that Blomkamp will be reteaming with his DISTRICT 9 star, Sharlto Copley, leaving the filmmaker in the hunt for the rest of the cast and distribution for the hotly talked about, originally conceived, project.

The film is being shopped around, along with Blomkamp’s patented technique of bringing along a graphic novel (he did the same thing for DISTRICT 9), and while I may not have been the biggest fan of the mixed bag that was DISTRICT 9, I can’t help but wait anxiously for this new film.

Apparently it’s going to be an action film with politically-fueled themes set on another planet, so it seems like it will follow the lines of the latter half of DISTRICT 9 as opposed to the first half, which could prove to be quite compelling. Personally, I find both involved to be truly talented within their respective fields, so here’s to hoping that this will ultimately lead to something truly special. I’m expecting nothing less.

What do you think?

i wonder if this is connected to that video he directed that was in the iPad version of Wired, with that pig-looking alien?

As far as I know, that is a separate thing, entitled AGM Heartland. From what I’ve heard, that is set to be an internet video series, that he will only be producing. Kind of allowing younger directors to helm videos within this universe. That’s all I know about that project at this point. If you search AGM Heartland on the site, we’ve written at length about that project.

However, what I wouldn’t be shocked to see is if this film were to be involved world wise with that very series. I could see AGM Heartland playing like a prequel viral series to Elysium. However, as far as the two being the exact same thing, I don’t think that’s the case.

Again though, I could be wrong :)
