Neill Blomkamp reteaming with Sharlto Copley for ELYSIUM
There’s nothing quite like working with the same team twice.
According to Deadline, that’s exactly what Neill Blomkamp plans to do for his next film, ELYSIUM. The outlet is reporting that Blomkamp will be reteaming with his DISTRICT 9 star, Sharlto Copley, leaving the filmmaker in the hunt for the rest of the cast and distribution for the hotly talked about, originally conceived, project.
The film is being shopped around, along with Blomkamp’s patented technique of bringing along a graphic novel (he did the same thing for DISTRICT 9), and while I may not have been the biggest fan of the mixed bag that was DISTRICT 9, I can’t help but wait anxiously for this new film.
Apparently it’s going to be an action film with politically-fueled themes set on another planet, so it seems like it will follow the lines of the latter half of DISTRICT 9 as opposed to the first half, which could prove to be quite compelling. Personally, I find both involved to be truly talented within their respective fields, so here’s to hoping that this will ultimately lead to something truly special. I’m expecting nothing less.
