New SHUTTER ISLAND trailer
Back in August, we got the news that Martin Scorsese's SHUTTER ISLAND was being pushed from October 2009 to February 2010, as Paramount was not financially prepared to launch the film with a big awards push. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as U.S. marshals investigating the mysterious disappearance of a mental patient from a facility on the remote Shutter Island. Of course, there's a lot more to the story than a simple whodoneit, and the second official trailer for the film more than hints at that.
The film is based on Dennis Lehane's novel of the same title. If Lehane's name sounds familiar, it's because he is also the novelist behind such adaptations as MYSTIC RIVER and GONE BABY GONE. Lehane knows how to straddle that line between writing cinematically-appealing fiction and writing a solid novel. After August's announcement, I read "Shutter Island" to sate my appetite for the film. Bad choice - it just made me want to see the film even more. If you are not afraid of spoilers, go ahead and give it a read - it's intensely absorbing, very scary, and you can even pick out scenes from the trailer!
