New X-MEN: FIRST CLASS photos hit; X4 apparently “in development”

As they are used to doing, the latest issue of Empire not only has some new photos revolving around X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, but has an insight as to what to expect from the X-MEN franchise moving forward.

First, the latest issue has some new photos not from the film, but involving the characters (hat tip to Obsessed With Film who has the scans, as this issue is not yet online), and they give us a great look at James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, January Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Beast (Nicholas Hoult), and Jason Flemyng as Azazel.  The photos themselves aren’t a ton to look at, but so far, so good, with regards to everything we’ve seen from the hotly anticipated project.

However, it’s the discussion with producer Lauren Shuler Donner that has gotten the most publicity.

Apparently, a treatment for a fourth X-MEN film has been taken to Fox, who subsequently loved it, and it also ultimately leads into a fifth film. Donner also states that their long-talked about DEADPOOL film features an R-rated script that’s “really irreverent and violent,” so if you think we are on the downturn when it comes to superhero films, don’t hold your breath.

Personally, I think that, given the right talent, I actually could see a fourth and fifth X-MEN film working really well, as even the otherwise dreadful X3 had its moments. I think it’s a fantastic franchise, as would be a really fun DEADPOOL film. Here’s to hoping they can stick the landing.

What do you think?
