Nicolas Cage reunites with Simon West in MEDALLION

Pardon the pun, but Nicolas Cage is a national treasure. Sure, he’s cashed in on some truly terrible films to make a little bank, but who hasn’t? I can overlook a BANGKOK DANGEROUS when I know that a BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS will be right around the corner. Even when Cage makes a horrifically bad film (THE WICKER MAN), he’s proven he can single-handedly make it watchable.

Cage will be reuniting with CON AIR director Simon West for MEDALLION, a thriller in which a former thief (Cage) has to track down his daughter, who is being held hostage in a New York City taxi cab.

I don’t even care if the plot sounds like a rehash of action films past, I just want to see Cage running down the street screaming, attacking cabbies, and trying to find out where his daughter is. Cage’s role in MEDALLION will probably require him to play it safe and act as restrained as he does in his other "paycheck movies."

Here’s to hoping that West and his producers let Cage off his leash.
