Noomi Rapace in the running for Ridley Scott’s ALIEN prequel

Ridley Scott's directing career feels like a mirror to the 2008 New York Stock Exchange. Sure, he may have started out with some great science-fiction films like ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER, but his recent work has been pretty lackluster. ROBIN HOOD was bloated and long; AMERICAN GANGSTER was decent, but didn't have the gravitas I expected from a veteran director like Scott. Even BODY OF LIES, which should have appealed to a conspiracy junkie like myself, fell flat.

Maybe all that will change, as Scott is returning to his roots in sci-fi. He's coming back to the ALIEN series, which he started back in 1979, with a prequel. He's been scouting for some female star power and he just might have found his leading lady. Hit the jump for the full story.

Noomi Rapace went from Swedish TV actor to international movie star with the portrayal of a single character- Lisbeth Salander. The infamous protagonist originated in the Millenium Trilogyby Stieg Larson, which has since been adapted into a film trilogy. While the original Swedish films are nearing their end, as THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST is about to hit theaters this fall, a series of American remakes is on the way.

Rapace is brilliant in the original films, so all these rumors are justified. Her portrayal of such an enigmatic individual was charged with such pathos, that despite the character's borderline sociopathic behavior, the audience could connect with what was happening on screen. I genuinely hope that Rapace can nab this role, as it would bring some legitimacy to the ALIEN prequel. According to Scott...

“The film[s] will be really tough, really nasty,” says Scott of the proposed two-part prequel, which he says will take place 30 years before the first film, “It’s the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet?”

Are you excited yet? Because I am. Keep checking GATW for more news concerning this ALIEN prequel and the acting exploits of Noomi Rapace.
