Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (of the Norwegian slasher COLD PREY) joins Famke Janssen (also cast as a witch) in the film, which is to be directed by Tommy Wirkola of DEAD SNOW fame. Jeremy Renner (THE HURT LOCKER) has been cast as Hansel and Gemma Arterton (PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME) is set to play Gretel. Berdal describes her witch as a "hardcore killing machine."
The film takes place fifteen years after Hansel and Gretel's first encounter with a witch, and the siblings have become witch hunters.

I give my stamp of approval for the idea behind HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS because witches have never really gotten their due in films. Besides SUSPIRIA, film witches are usually the punchline in comedies or populate lame fantasy films. I hope HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS contains some truly frightening witches and I think the casting of the film is headed in the right direction to bring viewers just that.
