Oliver Stone doing HISTORY for Showtime
Oliver Stone has created much controversy for his take on historical events and people with his films. Stone directed JFK, which investigated the possible conspiracy behind the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He was also the man behind ALEXANDER, which was met with strong opposition by many, including a group of Greek lawyers he threatened to sue over what they found to be historical inaccuracies in the film.
However, Stone's last two looks at famous events and figures, WORLD TRADE CENTER and W., were so shocking because of their lack of controversy, being pretty tame by Stone standards.
Well, Oliver Stone has just signed on for another history-based project, but it will be for the small screen, not the silver. Stone will be making a ten-part series for Showtime called SECRET HISTORY OF AMERICA. The name makes you think that this series will be more along the lines of JFK, NIXON, and ALEXANDER, and less like WORLD TRADE CENTER as far as the content being presented. And when you hear the synopsis you can become even more sure of the nature of the program, as it will be about "[events that] at the time went under-reported, but crucially shaped America's unique and complex history of the last 60 years."
I like this move by Stone, as I'm ready for Stone to piss off many people and engage even more with his incendiary views on history.
