If there has ever been a life more in need of the biopic treatment, it’s iconic Beach Boys leader, Brian Wilson. Just look at his life.

Gaining insane notoriety and legend status as the leader of the aforementioned musical group, he then fell victim to drug addiction and mental illness whilst attempting to finish work on the album Smile. Then, after years away, he came back only in the last decade with the finalized version of that record.

Now, it has been revealed (via The Playlist) that the writer/director of THE MESSENGER, Oren Moverman, has been tapped to pen the much talked-about biopic.

The film is being produced by John Wells, and while most people may only know Moverman as the writer of the aforementioned drama, the reason that this is such an intriguing bit of news is that Moverman was also a co-writer on the Todd Haynes film, I’M NOT THERE, easily one of the greatest music biopics ever put to screen.

Overall, while it remains to be seen as to who will be directing the film or who will be putting it out, it’s definitely something to be keeping an eye on. I’M NOT THERE is such a strong and powerful bit of filmmaking that I can’t help but think that we’ll be getting something strikingly similar. Here’s to hoping anyways.
