Oscar support for EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP heads to the streets
Coming off of its relatively surprising nomination for Best Documentary, support for Banksy’s critical darling, EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP, is taking to the streets, as what else, street art.
A possible Banksy original (although this writer has his doubts) has shown up on La Brea Ave (hat tip to Movieline, head over there to check out the really cool photos), and it shows a golden man in a hooded sweatshirt, presumably the man himself, surrounded by Storm Troopers who are shooting him as if he were on a TV broadcast.
The mural is a really cool little thing, and while this writer is far from a huge fan of the film it’s helping to push forward, I really love this piece of (un)intentional promotion. Personally, I adore INSIDE JOB, that category’s biggest frontrunner, but the idea of Banksy winning an Oscar is something wholly mind-blowing.
Here’s to hoping we get many, many more pieces like this leading up to the Oscar ceremony. A Banksy piece on the red carpet? Count me so damn in.
