Owen Wilson joins THE COUP

April 24th, 2012

Well this is a bit of a change of pace.

Beloved funny man and Wes Anderson bunk buddy Owen Wilson's career has been full of iconic comedic turns, with the occasional dramatic spot here and there. According to STYD, not only will he be making his return to action (his last being BEHIND ENEMY LINES) but he'll be doing it with an unlikely creative team.

The outlet reports that Wilson will star in John Erick Dowdle’s film, THE COUP, from a script penned by him and his brother, Drew. The film is about “an American family in their new overseas home [finding] themselves caught in the middle of a coup, frantically look for a safe escape while rebels mercilessly attack the city.”

Drawing comparisons to films like TAKEN, the film is an interesting little change of pace for Wilson, who hasn’t really had much experience outside of the comedic world. I think the premise sounds interesting enough, so while I wasn’t a massive fan of Dowdle’s last film, DEVIL, this is definitely going to be a film that I’ll be watching with the keenest of eyes.
