elizabeth banks in talks for the hunger games

And this cast just keeps getting bigger.

Coming Soon is reporting that Elizabeth Banks has joined the cast of the upcoming film, WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING, which is set to star Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Brooklyn Decker, Anna Kendrick, Chris Rock, Matthew Morrison, and Rodrigo Santoro.

The film is based on the beloved book of the same name, and will follow four couples attempting to have children. Kirk Jones of WAKING NED DEVINE fame is directing the film, which will be hitting on May 11, 2012.  As a fan of Banks, this is definitely a welcome addition to a film that I have a hard time really caring that much about.  (more...)

Joe Carnahan has been pretty hit or miss critically since he blast onto the scene with his 2002 feature NARC. Since then, he has directed SMOKIN' ACES and THE A-TEAM. Both films were met with polarizing opinions, however Carnahan's filmmaking is rarely the issue. With his next film, THE GREY, he's looking for a major redemption.

Carnahan took to his Twitter to give us some updates on how the production of THE GREY is coming along. The film is heading towards it's final edit, which would make it "locked" and he hopes to ease the fears of those who have opposed him. He claims, "Almost locked THE GREY. It’s a monster. Haters prepare. Your hopes will be dashed.”

The film follows a group of Alaskan pipeline workers whose plane goes down, leaving them hunted by a pack of wolves living in the snowy outdoors. Carnahan seems to have a real passion toward this one, that actually could in turn have positive effects on the film. This kind of film certainly doesn't hit the big screen all that often. His sensibilities certainly make sense for this picture. (more...)

The actress moves into film producing

It seems that actress Teresa Palmer has been everywhere recently, appearing in mainstream films like BEDTIME STORIES, I AM NUMBER FOUR, and THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE. She’s far and away been the greatest thing about most all of her projects, and now it looks like she’ll be taking even more control of where her career goes from here.

In an interview with Australian Vogue (via The Playlist), Palmer reveals that she’s interested in producing a script that focuses on the pharmaceutical industry and the corrupt practices within it; she also wants to lead the project. The actress will soon meet with DreamWorks about the film, which was once set to be a little indie flick. (more...)

A triple bill of great Women-in-Prison classics!

There are two main reasons that people watch Women-in-Prison (WIP) films. One is for the crazy violence, usually caused by the uprising of an oppressed group of prisoners and the wrongfully accused just trying to set things right. The other, and more prominent reason, is because of the nudity. Yes, WIP flicks are known for bare babes behind bars and that is not something they try to hide. In fact there is a film from 1980 simply called BARE BEHIND BARS. If anyone out there was going to give you the skinny on which of this subgenre was worth your 90 minutes I’d be willing to bet my money on Mr. Skin. As you all know this is the man behind the website you can go to for skinformation on who was in naked in what movie and to what extent. Now he has teamed up with Panik House to release a triple bill of his favorite down and dirty WIP flicks, and, for the most part, he knows his stuff. (more...)

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen director Spike Lee behind the camera, but it’s been even longer since we’ve seen actor Spike Lee in front of it. However, that will thankfully be changing, and in a big way.

Blackfilm is reporting (via Shadow And Act) that Lee will not only have a role in his new film, RED HOOK SUMMER, but he’ll be bringing back his iconic character of Mookie for the upcoming film. Apparently, Lee found some sort of funding for a new project, despite telling outlets that financing has been almost impossible to come by, and the film is already shooting as of today (at least according to Lee’s Twitter).

The film will follow the story of an adult’s summer in the titular neighborhood, and with the news of the addition of Mookie, it sounds like it’s some sort of prequel/sequel/spin-off to Lee’s masterpiece, DO THE RIGHT THING. (more...)

The celebrated actor is negotiating to star in IMAGINE

Al Pacino is something of an odd actor. With an upcoming turn as himself in the criminally crappy looking JACK AND JILL, the actor also recently starred as Jack Kevorkian in the amazing YOU DON’T KNOW JACK.  Now, thanks to HBO, he’ll be taking on yet another controversial figure.

The New York Post (via The Playlist) has picked up the first photo of Pacino in the guise of Phil Spector, the man he’ll be portraying in an upcoming biopic from director David Mamet. The film is also written by Mamet, and will follow the relationship between the infamous music producer and his attorney Linda Kenney Baden, played by Bette Midler. Jeffrey Tambor rounds out the cast. Check out the first look after the break. (more...)

With a teaser trailer set to bow along with prints of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II, the first set of teaser posters have hit for one of this year’s most anticipated remaining projects.

WB has released (via Yahoo) two posters for the upcoming sequel SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS, and while they aren’t much to look at, they do definitely get the wheels going. (more...)

And this cast continues to get really good. THR is reporting that Ray Stevenson has joined the cast of the upcoming film, G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES.  The actor will play the film’s lead baddie, Firefly, member of the Cobra organization and happens to be both a master ninja as well as a bad ass expert in the world of explosions.  He’ll join Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Elodie Yung, D.J. Cotrona, Adrianne Palicki and The RZA.

The film will be helmed by Jon Chu, and is slowly becoming a project to really keep an eye on.  I absolutely adore this cast, and with Chu behind the camera, one can expect solid choreography.  With this creative team, hopes are definitely high for this thing. (more...)
