Wall Street

I don’t like it when real life characters mix it up with fictional ones. It’s too much for my brain to process. Real life character The Donald himself, Donald Trump, has a cameo in the upcoming sequel WALL STREET 2: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS.

We’ve got two more pictures of Trump on the set with Michael Douglas and director Oliver Stone after the jump. (more…)

persia poster tease

Remember those PRINCE OF PERSIA posters we brought you back in July? They were the first posters we’d seen for the movie and until recently I had my doubts that they were 100% legit. Mostly because they had the distinct misfortune of looking like Calvin Klein ads and, to me, posters just don’t look like that. Well, I was wrong and I have the new poster to prove it.

Like the last one, which featured Princess Tamina in an extreme close-up, this new one is a close-up of our hero, Prince Dastan. Besides that, they also have a word written on top in red, which is what makes it look like an ad for cologne. Whenever I see it, I hear a voice saying, “Courage, the new fragrance by Calvin Klein,” in my head. Judge for yourself, see the poster after the jump. (more…)

the hobbit

If there is one thing I’ve learned from closely following the entertainment business, it’s that you should never celebrate too soon. Over the past year or so everything seemed to be going so smoothly for THE HOBBIT pre-production that something was bound go wrong. At least it’s nothing too big.

Peter Jackson revealed that he, Fran Walsh, Phillipa Boyens, and Guillermo del Toro are still hard at work on the script of the second HOBBIT movie and won’t be able to finish until early 2010. This pushes the start of the production back to the middle of summer. (more…)

the_nines_movie_image_ryan_reynolds

Ryan Reynolds is the guy that women want to be with and men want to be. Those men more specifically being comic book nerds, as Reynolds has solidified his place in comic book movie superstardom by starring in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, BLADE: TRINITY, and of course slipping on the ring as Hal Jordan in the upcoming GREEN LANTERN film.

Reynolds has never been one to be shy in speaking up about his love of comic books, even being the one attempting to jump start a Deadpool film long before WOLVERINE. Reynolds recently opened up to MTV about what we can expect from the first GREEN LANTERN film.

“It is [an origin story] to a certain degree, but it’s not a labored origin story, where the movie [truly] begins in the third act,” Reynolds said. “The movie starts when it starts. We find out Hal is the guy fairly early on, and the adventure begins.” (more…)

jonah hex banner

Until now, it has been mere speculation on what exactly the graphic novel-to-film adaptation of JONAH HEX would adapt from its source material. Today, that speculation ends! I hope you read that in an epic, Bill Pullman in INDEPENDENCE DAY kind of way.

“Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone…and anything. Having survived death, Jonah’s violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the “other side.” His only human connection is with Leila (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. But Jonah’s past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can’t refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah’s oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead. Based on the legendary graphic novel, “Jonah Hex” is an epic adventure thriller about one man’s personal quest for redemption against the vast canvas of the battle between good and evil.”

See more after the jump, including an official photo of Brolin as Hex. (more…)

Beautiful Creatures

Summit may have the corner on the vampire market, but Warner Bros. is all about the teen witches. Warner’s tentpole franchise, HARRY POTTER, will end in 2011, so it looks as if the studio already launched their own witch hunt to fill the hole left by the end of the hijinks at Hogwarts.

Warner Bros. has just acquired “Beautiful Creatures,” the inaugural novel in a planned five-book series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. The young adult novel was released just today, and it’s already number 68 on Amazon’s bestselling book chart. If that doesn’t strike you as a film adaptation fast track, get ready for this – Warner has already picked their screenwriter and director for the film. It’s Richard LaGravanese, who last directed P.S. I LOVE YOU and scripted the second film in the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA series (THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER) and the film adaptation of the book “Water for Elephants.” Suffice to say, LaGravanese is familiar with the page-to-screen work an adaptation requires.

“Beautiful Creatures” focuses on Big Man on Campus (BMOC) Ethan Wate “who hates living in a small in South Carolina where nothing happens – until he meets and becomes bewitched by Lena Duchanne, a 16-year old whose family has moved back to town and who wishes for a mundane life. The star-crossed couple has to confront an age old curse that has haunted her family for generations, as she comes to grips with her powers.” Bewitching, indeed.

To get a feel for the tone we can probably expect of BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, hit the jump to see the book’s trailer (still a practice that confounds me). (more…)

IRON MAN 2_4

With the recent release of the teaser poster for IRON MAN 2, geek hearts everywhere have melted like the cheese sauce atop theater nachos. Well, wait till you get a load of these new production stills, including the one of Scarlett Johansson in full Black Widow regalia. Although similar to the original production still released of Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, it has yet to lose its venom.

We also get a look at Mickey Rourke up to no good as the seemingly Tony Stark-obsessed villain Whiplash. There are also a few stills of Mr. Stark himself. Apparently, he still has problems with the take-off part. Luckily, he still has that sassy robot at his aide.

IRON MAN 2 flies into theaters next summer, on May 7, 2010. Aside from newcomers Rourke and Johansson, Sam Rockwell joins the cast as Justin Hammer. In Marvel Comic’s IRON MAN story arc, Hammer was a multi-billionaire businessman, criminal financier, and foe to both Stark and Iron Man. Don Cheadle also joins 2, taking over for Terrence Howard as Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes, who becomes the chromed out sidekick to Iron Man, War Machine.

The Hangover

Recently ROAD TRIP, OLD SCHOOL, and THE HANGOVER director Todd Phillips talked to Entertainment Weekly and gave them some interesting information in regards to THE HANGOVER sequel.

Phillips mentioned that he was thinking about a sequel even when THE HANGOVER was filming, and Warner Bros. wanted to do a sequel even before THE HANGOVER hit theaters, saying, “then once the movie tested so well, Warner Bros. came to me even before it was released and said, ‘Let’s do another one.’”

Also, Phillips is about “midway through working on the script for the HANGOVER sequel,” according to the article. This is encouraging progress by Phillips, who is actually shooting another comedy right now, with DUE DATE. (more…)

kaling

I don’t follow the U.S. version of the “The Office” as closely as I did the UK version. But, from time to time, I watch a few episodes on Hulu or Netflix and it gives me a few chuckles and I ask myself, “why did I never fully give this version a chance?” One thing I do like about the American “Office” is that some of the writing staff are also stars of the show.  One such star is Mindy Kaling, better known as Kelly Kapoor.

Kaling is set to co-write a romantic comedy with fellow “Office” writer Ben Forrester, who also worked on “King of the Hill” and “The Simpsons.”  The project will be called THE LOW SELF-ESTEEM OF LIZZIE GILLESPIE. (more…)

gibson2

For Empire Magazine‘s 20th birthday issue, they got together an impressive handful of actors and photographed them in one of the greatest roles they’ve ever done. Most of these films are timeless and will be talked about forever.

I’ve been looking at these photos for the last hour frozen. They are insanely beautiful and the last 26 years of my movie watching life has just resurfaced. Thank you Empire, I’m now in love with you.

Check out every photo after the jump, and click on the image to see the full resolution size. From what I read, the photo of Jack Nicholson is supposed to represent ABOUT SCHMIDT. I don’t know about that. Either way, every single one of these photos are kick-ass! (more…)

Breaking Dawn

It’s time for our daily TWILIGHT news. The chatter about the penultimate film in the series based on Stephenie Meyer’s insanely popular book series, BREAKING DAWN, is heating up. It’s long been rumored that the final film would be split into at least two movies, if not three, and now word is out that “multiple sources” are reporting that Summit Entertainment is interested in, at the very least, going the two-film way.

So far, the only hard and fast news is that screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has been tapped to write the script. Having penned TWILIGHT, NEW MOON, and ECLIPSE, this is news to absolutely no one. But, beyond the enduring two-film rumor is a new one – that Summit wants NEW MOON director Chris Weitz back in the director’s chair for however many films BREAKING DAWN shakes out to be. Weitz recently declared that a much smaller film, THE GARDENER, would be his next job (after telling the world he might just chuck it all in favor of learning Spanish and going surfing). And just who wants to fund THE GARDENER? Why, Summit, of course! That’s not a done deal yet, and could that be due to Summit tantalizing Weitz with a fat BREAKING DAWN paycheck in exchange for postponing the flick?

Of course, this is all speculation as of now, but it still begs one big question. Should BREAKING DAWN even be broken down into two films? (more…)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

(Click on the image to see the high-resolution image!)

Hey Muggles! Warner Bros. just sent me the first official photo of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 1, which is featured in today’s issue of USA Today. I’m not going to do any more bumbling, because I’m sure you don’t care what I have to say right now – this is all about the photo. The caption reads, “Harry, Hermione and Ron move quickly down a London street, away from their encounter with the Death Eaters.”

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 1 is scheduled to open November 19, 2010, with the second part, titled HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 2, opening July 15, 2011.

Tom Cavanagh

The live action/CGI animated YOGI BEAR film already has its voice for the picnic basket-loving bear in Dan Aykroyd, as well as the voice of Yogi’s sidekick Boo-Boo, thanks to none other than the guy who brought sexy back, Justin Timberlake (I think Dr. Phil was the reason it left). The lead female and non-CGI role of a documentary filmmaker is covered, thanks to one of the funniest girls in Hollywood, Anna Faris.

And now, another major role in the YOGI BEAR movie has been filled. Tom Cavanagh, who starred as Ed Stevens on the TV show “Ed,” will be playing the role of Ranger Smith. The man who tries to stop Yogi’s antics, Ranger Smith will also become the love interest of Faris’ character. (more…)
