Al Gore has really started something. Ever since AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH hit theaters across the U.S., the "green" movement has exploded into a serious cultural phenomenon. Now, the treehuggers of the world have even acquired their own superhero. THE GREEN LANTERN is about a man who uses a lantern, but instead of the traditional whale-blubber wick you and I are used to, this man uses recycled materials. As a result of his "green" efforts, the man is awarded super-human powers.

So Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Jenna Elfman, Tom Skerritt, and Tate Donovan walk into a bar...sounds like the start of a bad Scientologist joke, doesn't it? But comedy became reality when these actors, along with Anna Kendrick, Milo Ventimiglia, Chad Michael Murray, Eric Dane, Tom Arnold, and Johnny Galecki, were seen leaving a restaurant called Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood on Tuesday morning.

Apparently, the actors were all there to attend a table read for the film PAPER WINGS, a film about a championship-winning bull rider that falls in love with a budding country singer, a role Reese Witherspoon is rumored to fill the boots of. If WALK THE LINE proved anything, it's that that little gal can sing! Who would play the bull rider is unknown, but something tells me Tom Cruise may lasso that one. The actor has been actively looking for other films to star in should MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4 come under self-destruct mode. (more...)

Somehow, this has slipped through most of the cracks in the blogosphere. I'm not sure how, but here it is. Prodigaal son of Ghibli Studios, Goro Miyazaki, has returned from his day job (landscaping as it would turn out; the son was reluctant to follow in his father's very large footsteps) to bring us his debut, TALES FROM EARTHSEA.

The film was released in Japan quite a while ago, but Disney is finally bringing it to American shores. Check out the trailer after the break. (more...)

Yes! Yes! Yes! Wonderful news! Well, hopefully.

Michael Caine revealed during the London premiere of INCEPTION to Digital Spy that BATMAN 3 is planned to start production in April of 2011. Here's what Caine had to say:

"I think they're going to do it in April, that's about as much as I know."

As was recently reported, Jonathan Nolan is currently working away at the script so, obviously, if that is not finished in time we could see that rumored production start date change. Not to mention the fact that, in the past, a few actors connected to the franchise have been known to blab their mouths off about start dates and other whispers they've overheard which ended up to not be true. I see only wicked things coming this way for Pixar.

I’m as jazzed as the next cinephile to see a film like MONSTERS, INC. get a sequel. However, Pixar has slowly become the studio that, while still seemingly pumping out great stuff, are slowly going the route of counterparts like Dreamworks by developing new sequels to previous franchises.

With CARS 2 on the horizon, Movieline is reporting that Pixar is set to go the spin-off route, with a film called PLANES, which would spin-off the CARS franchise. (more...)

While the feature films making their home in your local megaplex may be a little weak (until Friday and INCEPTION, at least), this new featurette for SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD attempts to make that all a little better.

Thanks to The Playlist, a new featurette has been released for the film. While it doesn’t give a ton of new footage, it does give us a bit more of a look at some characters played by Kieran Culkin, and particularly Brandon Routh, who gets yet another moment to really show us just how amazing he seems to be as one of the evil exes. We also get a chance to see people like Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the two leads of the film, as well as its director Edgar Wright, talk a little bit about the film, which is always nice. Believe it or not, there are still some indigenous tribes that have remained sheltered from the outside world, wholly unaware of the political climate and technological innovations that we live with every day. In an age where even the Dalai Lama has a Twitter page, this level of isolation is somewhat miraculous. They don't have iPads and would probably use one as a washboard if they did.

The Amazon is sill home to some of these tribes, but in 1996, cultural archaeologists discovered something that until then was simply unheard of - a one man tribe. They vowed to protect the lone Indian at all costs. (more...)

Todd Phillips, the director of OLD SCHOOL, found an unprecedented hit on his hands with 2009's THE HANGOVER. Not only was it one of the funniest movies of the year, it also turned into an international box office sensation. Since its release, I haven't been able to escape quotes from the movie. I don't care how funny it was, if I have to hear how much Tigers love cinnamon one more time...I'll probably still laugh.
