It was only a matter of time.

According to Dread Central, Oren Peli has announced that the third film in the burgeoning PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise will be hitting theaters on October 21, 2011. If you are shocked by this, then I don’t really know what to tell you.

With the SAW franchise dead (at least at the writing of this, but more than likely it’s a temporary stall in the franchise), this leaves the door wide open for a big Halloween staple, a door that is perfect for the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise.

Personally, while I think this is far from shocking, if this third film can continue the trend of growth that was seen in the second film, a genuinely fine horror film, than I will be more than happy to hand over some more cash to this creative team. Now, that said, I would be shocked if we didn’t see it go into the realm of 3D within the next film or two, but at this point, I’m cautiously optimistic.
