PARANORMAL ACTIVITY director to visit AREA 51
The reason I am up tonight, at this hour, writing this very post, is I cannot sleep. The reason I cannot sleep is due to a little, no-budget horror film called PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Let's just say the film is extremely haunting...in more ways than one (check out Rusty's review HERE).
I imagine as more and more audiences are exposed to the film - likely with one eye open - the buzz that already surrounds it will grow. The natural question many will pose is, what will be next for the man behind this realistically terrifying tale? Allow me to enlighten you.
Director Oren Peli has said he will move from one supernatural subject to another, exploring aliens in
"an original, found-video thriller called AREA 51." Not much else is known about the film, but if the "found-video" description is any indication, Peli seems to be continuing in his immersive hand-held style. As effective as this was in pulling you into the reality of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, I look forward to seeing whatever Peli does with another potentially realistic and disturbing film. Also considering the fact that ACTIVITY was made for $15,000, Peli may be able to go a bit farther with his methods of fright, should he have a bigger budget.
If I had my guess, I would think that a film about a group exploring AREA 51, all from the perspective of handheld cameras, would be quite interesting and present some great material for a great horror/sci-fi film. Especially considering that the myth of AREA 51 has been long talked about, yet never really explored on celluloid. Except for the documentary INDEPENDENCE DAY.
