Paul Bettany might play Javert in Tom Hooper’s LES MISERABLES
Universal isn’t wasting any more time getting LES MISERABLES off the ground. The studio and director Tom Hooper are currently interested in Hugh Jackman to play ex-con Jean Valjean in the adaptation of the famous stage musical, but he’s not the only actor that Hooper and Universal are eyeing.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Paul Bettany might star in the film as Inspector Javert, a cop who persistently pursues Valjean. Bettany’s given a reading for the part and performed numbers from the musical. He’s a terrific actor, but the musical aspect is a bit of a concern, as he’s not as vocally equipped as Jackman. Even so, starring in this big musical could be a perfect way for him to get back to serious acting and away from genre flicks like PRIEST.
Production on LES MISERABLES is currently slated to begin in Europe before the end of the year, and it will more than likely be ready for a release next year during Oscar season.
