Paul Greengrass gets greenlight from Universal for MEMPHIS
Apparently director Paul Greengrass has had it with handi-cam action films.
Deadline has revealed that the BOURNE SUPREMECY and BOURNE ULTIMATUM director has been given a greenlight by Universal to helm the upcoming film, MEMPHIS.
Announced a month or so ago, the film is penned by Greengrass, and follows the final days in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in the spring of 1968. An intense time for the civil rights icon, this film should prove to be quite a compelling and tense film looking at a period of time that hasn’t really gotten its fair shake over the past few years.
The film is being set up at Universal proper, after rumors of Focus Features getting behind the film, and should be an interesting change of step for the director, best known for intense and visually dizzying action films, and a film that I absolutely can’t wait for. Greengrass isn’t quite the name that one would imagine behind a film like this, but I think that is where the film’s inherent intrigue comes from. Greengrass has done films outside of the action world, and his best film, UNITED 93, is an absolutely breathtaking true life feature.
