UPDATED: Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann to lead Judd Apatow’s next film, a KNOCKED UP prequel/sequel
UPDATED: HitFix spoke to Judd Apatow himself, who confirmed that the film is not a prequel or a sequel, but "a story from Pete and Debbie's current life." Okay, splitting hairs here, but that does sound a bit like a sequel, but we'll call it a spin-off and be done.
While this may not be the most shocking casting news ever, it does definitely bode well for Judd Apatow’s next project.
The Wrap is reporting that frequent Apatow collaborators Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann will be starring in the director’s next film. The yet-to-be-titled project will start production later this year, and is slated for a June 1, 2012 release.
Apatow is set to write the film as well, which at this point is all that we know. The logline and plot are being kept under strict lock and key, and will be the director’s fourth film, and it will see the pair reprising their roles from Apatow's third film, KNOCKED UP. It's yet to be revealed if it will be a prequel or a sequel.
Personally, while I haven’t been a huge fan of Apatow’s previous films, I do have a lot of hope for this film. FUNNY PEOPLE was a relatively interesting step forward for the director, and was a film that seemed like a much deeper piece of filmmaking for a director who is definitely growing. The additions of Rudd and Mann have me really interested in seeing what he’ll be able to do here. I'm more than excited to head back to the rather fun world that was created in KNOCKED UP, so hopefully it will be just as enjoyable.
